MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) – I am ready to do my best to help the British Council representative office to reopen in Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Belarus Fionna Gibb said in a press conference on 20 October, BelTA has learned.
Ambassador Fionna Gibb recalled that, unfortunately, there is no British Council representative office in Belarus. The Ambassador noted that she would like to do everything possible to see it back in Minsk.
Founded in 1935, the British Council operates in about 130 countries today. The organization aims to develop cooperation in education, culture and art between the UK and other countries.
Up to 2000 the British Council had a representative office in Belarus. It was closed due to structural changes in the organization.
