Talks on Ukraine resume in Minsk

MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) - A regular round of talks to secure peaceful settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine is underway in Minsk, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Belarusian capital is hosting the meeting of the working groups of the trilateral contact group promoting peace settlement in Ukraine.

The previous talks on Ukraine were held in Minsk on 30 May. Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office in Ukraine and in the Trilateral Contact Group, Ambassador Martin Sajdik urged conflicting parties in Ukraine to pay special attention to the safety of children. Compared with the beginning of the year, the number of civilian casualties, including children, sharply increased over the past two months. Martin Sajdik added that all the parties are responsible for ensuring the safety of children during summer holidays. The Working Group on Economic Issues continued its discussion of further steps to restore and improve Vodafone-Ukraine mobile communication in certain areas of Donetsk and Lugansk regions. Moreover, the group considered the topic of water deliveries in Karbonyt and Voda Donbassa systems as well as the payment of pensions and environmental issues. The Working Group on Humanitarian Issues continued its discussion on the topics of detainees exchange and the conditions of their detention, and missing persons.
