Talks on Ukraine resume in Minsk

MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) – The working groups of the trilateral contact group on Ukraine have gathered in Minsk for talks, BelTA learned from the Twitter account of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The talks will be followed by a meeting of the trilateral contact group.

At the previous meeting on 18 January, the OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group Martin Sajdik noted that the group remains the only permanent format for resolving the conflict in the east of Ukraine. The diplomat expressed hope that the year 2018 will be decisive for the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

During the negotiations in Minsk on 18 January, the subgroup on humanitarian affairs spoke positively about the POW exchange on 27 December 2017 and discussed the next steps in this direction. The subgroup on security affairs pointed to a considerable decrease in ceasefire violations during the festive season. The subgroup on economic affairs continued discussing payments for water delivery as part of the Karbonit system. The subgroup on political affairs continued discussing the implementation of the so-called Steinmeier formula. The law on Donbass' reintegration that the Ukrainian parliament had passed earlier was mentioned, too.
