Tajikistan lays out its CIS Presidency priorities in 2018

MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) – Ambassador of Tajikistan to Belarus, Permanent Plenipotentiary Representative in the CIS statutory and other bodies Kozidavlat Koimdodov laid out the concept of Tajikistan's Presidency in the CIS in 2018, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

Among the priorities Kozidavlat Koimdodov noted the promotion of interaction of the CIS countries in the United Nations and other international and regional organizations and the sustainable development goals (poverty reduction, clean water and affordable clean energy).

Tajikistan intends to focus on strengthening the role of the CIS in ensuring the security and stability on the southern borders of the CIS. Cooperation will be strengthened to combat terrorism, extremism, neo-Nazism, drug trafficking, economic crimes, illegal migration and human trafficking.

Kozidavlat Koimdodov reported that in the area of energy, Tajikistan will intensify cooperation in energy saving technologies, rehabilitation of parallel operation of the energy systems and a sustainable mechanism for transit of electricity. Harnessing renewable and non-conventional energy sources may become one of the most promising areas, the ambassador noted.

Particular attention will be given to road and rail transport. “We consider it necessary to take the cooperation in road and rail transit to a qualitatively new level,” Koimdodov Kozidavlat said.

Migration, social and labor relations will be also among the priorities. Plans have been made to intensify the work on the establishment of an effective system of regulation of migration processes, including the exchange of information on labor force needs on the national labor markets and on setting up a unified system of registration of nationals of third states and stateless persons entering the territory of the CIS.

In 2017, Russia presides in the CIS. Turkmenistan will be the CIS co-chair in 2018.
