Lukashenko to attend Supreme Eurasian Economic Council session in Sochi

MINSK, 14 May (BelTA-TASS) – A session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council will take place in Russia's Sochi on 14 May, BelTA has learnt.

This will be the first meeting of the EAEU heads of state this year. The session will be attended by the presidents of Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the prime minister of Armenia. The president of Moldova was also invited to take part in the session as a guest.

The heads of state will have private and extended sessions. The 14-point agenda includes granting Moldova the EAEU observer status. The participants of the session will discuss a draft agreement on international treaties with other countries and associations, implementation of the EAEU digital agenda and key areas of international activities.

The agenda also covers major guidelines of the macroeconomic policy of the participating states in 2018-2019, liberalization of certain branches of the services sector in the EAEU and some technical issues.

The Sochi summit is expected to approve the establishment of specialized councils of standardization and accreditation chiefs. Similar bodies will be instituted to coordinate policies of the member states in transportation and agriculture. They will work on harmonizing transportation complexes and developing the common transportation market. They will also elaborate the common strategy to develop the agricultural industry and coordinate the promotion of the EAEU products on foreign markets.
