Speakers of CEE parliaments discussing migration, SDGs in Warsaw

MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – Migration and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals are discussed at a meeting of speakers of the parliaments of Central and Eastern Europe countries in Warsaw, the press service of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus told BelTA.

Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk is taking part in the third meeting of speakers of the parliaments of Central and Eastern Europe countries in Warsaw. Speakers and vice speakers of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Georgia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, Serbia, Slovenia, Czechia, and representatives of other countries have arrived in Warsaw to take part in the forum. There are matters of regional and global importance on the agenda such as power engineering, transport, the Sustainable Development Goals, parliamentary diplomacy, and migration policy. Speakers of both chambers of the Polish parliament addressed participants of the forum with a welcome address.

Boleslav Pirshtuk presented a report on the role of parliaments in reaching the SDGs. He noted that a lot of attention is paid to this matter in Belarus. Boleslav Pirshtuk said that Belarus had already started working towards reaching the SDGs at the national level. The post of the national coordinator for reaching the SDGs had been instituted and the parliament had set up a working group on reaching the SDGs.

The press service of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament pointed out that in the international scene Belarusian MPs are involved in a broad discussion on topics relating to reaching the SDGs. The Belarusian resolution on promoting digital economy for the sake of ensuring economic growth in the OSCE space was unanimously passed during the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly session in Berlin on 11 July. The document was included into the final declaration. The resolution is designed to assist with the promotion of digital economy for the sake of ensuring economic growth in the OSCE space.

Boleslav Pirshtuk met with Vice Speakers of the Polish Sejm Ryszard Terlecki and Beata Mazurek and the co-chairman of the Polish-Belarusian parliamentary group Adam Andruszkiewicz. Bilateral cooperation matters were discussed during the meetings. Apart from that, Boleslav Pirshtuk met with Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, co-chairman of the Armenian-Belarusian interparliamentary cooperation commission Eduard Sharmazanov. The sides discussed matters relating to the organization of the next session of the commission.
