Separation of warring sides expected to play crucial role in building trust in Ukraine

MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) – The contact group on Ukraine believes that the separation of forces and assets will be the decisive factor in building up mutual trust, BelTA learned from the OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik on 26 October.

According to the source, the negotiations held in Minsk on 26 October once again demonstrated that the idea of separating forces and assets along the entire contact line enjoys strong backing. “We consider the separation [of forces and assets] to be the decisive factor in the buildup of mutual trust,” said Martin Sajdik. He went on saying that the observation of the ceasefire agreement will contribute to further implementation of the framework agreement of 21 September.

The OSCE's special representative said that on 26 October the subgroup on security discussed the creation of security zones in three areas. In his words, the separation of forces and the clearing of mines near Zolotoye and Petrovskoye were noted yet the OSCE access to these areas is still a problem. The separation of forces and assets near Stanitsa Luganskaya and in new areas was discussed in detail, too.

Apart from that, participants of the contact group on Ukraine exchanged proposals in favor of creating new security zones in Donbass.
