Elections 2016. Schedule for organizing Belarus parliament elections approved

MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – On 8 June the Central Election Commission of Belarus approved the calendar plan for preparing for and organizing the actual elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, BelTA has learned.

In particular, Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina noted that candidates will be nominated from 3 July through 1 August. 7 July is the final day for registration and presentation of documents for registering initiative groups to the relevant commissions. Applications and all the documents needed to register as a candidate for a parliamentary seat are to be submitted by 2 August. The registration of candidates will take ten days from 2 August through 11 August.

Representatives to election commissions — oblast commissions, the Minsk city commission, and constituency election commissions — are to be nominated by 25 June. Polling stations will be established on 9 July at the latest. 24 July is the final day for nominating representatives to constituency election commissions. 27 July is the final day for setting up constituency election commissions.

The lists of people eligible to vote are to be compiled by 26 August.

Municipal government agencies are supposed to decide by 28 June where picketing for collecting signatures in support of potential candidates is forbidden.

Municipal government agencies are supposed to decide by 2 August where pre-election campaigning may take place.

Results of elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly will be summed by constituency election commissions on 15 September at the latest.
