Sajdik reports increased number of ceasefire violations in Ukraine's east

MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) - The number of violations of the ceasefire regime in Ukraine's east has slightly increased in the recent days, OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik told the media on 31 January, BelTA informs.

According to Martin Sajdik, the ceasefire violation numbers were fewer in comparison with the situation before the resumption of the ceasefire in view of the Christmas and New Year's holidays in late 2017. “Unfortunately, the number of ceasefire violations has recently increased,” the diplomat said.

The ensuring of ceasefire regime was the main issue for discussion during a video conference of the working group on security on 29 January. “Taking into account the statement of the trilateral contact group of 20 December 2017, the working group reaffirmed its commitment to a comprehensive, sustainable and unlimited ceasefire, underlining the necessity of the issuance of, and compliance with, the respective orders, including the necessity of disciplinary measures for ceasefire violations,” Martin Sajdik said.

The working group on security discussed the matters related to the withdrawal of forces and hardware, and also demining. They also talked over the need to restore the key objects of civil infrastructure and demine approaches to checkpoints. When asked about the withdrawal of forces and hardware in the area of Stanitsa Luganskaya, Martin Sajdik pointed to 2 February, the date mentioned by the Ukrainian side. The diplomat expressed hope that everything would be as agreed.
