MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – It is necessary to remove barriers and restrictions inside the Eurasian Economic Union. Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev made the statement during the expanded-participation session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Minsk on 27 October, BelTA has learned.
Dmitry Medvedev said: “A common space without exemptions, barriers, and restrictions is truly an important component of economic growth. Although we look outwards, trying to come to terms with our partners by means of free trade zone agreements, the removal of internal barriers is even more important.”
The draft Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union was one of the items on the agenda of the private meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council earlier that day. “The meeting was useful because such meetings give an opportunity to address accumulated issues, which cannot be resolved at some other level. We've managed to fix nearly half of them. We agreed to continue discussions,” said the Russian head of government.
In his words, the new Customs Code lays down prerequisites for transition to universal customs regulations. “Russia is in favor of a direct-action comprehensive document. The document shouldn't be divided into parts or sections. It has to be the document to determine how the Customs Code will exist and how the Eurasian Economic Union will evolve,” stressed Dmitry Medvedev.
“The faster we progress in creating the universal customs regulations, the fewer protectionist provisos will remain,” said the Russian head of government.
