Rinkevics: Latvia has no questions to ask Belarus about the Zapad 2017 army exercise

MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) – Latvia has no questions to ask Belarus about the forthcoming Belarusian-Russian army exercise Zapad 2017. The statement was made by Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkevics after negotiations with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei on 19 July, BelTA has learned.

“We no longer have any questions to ask Belarus about the [army exercise] Zapad 2017. My counterpart has explained the stance of the state in detail. I am satisfied,” said Edgars Rinkevics.

The Latvian minister of foreign affairs went on saying that despite the fact that Belarus and Latvia belong to different military blocs, they cooperate constructively in security matters. The two countries regularly hold bilateral meetings, share information, and work together to control air space. “We respect the choice our countries have in the sphere of military security,” stated Edgars Rinkevics.
