Rainer Lindner: Belarus is a promising venue for talks of pan-European cooperation

MINSK, 26 April (BelTA) – Belarus is a promising venue for holding negotiations of the pan-European cooperation of a new format, Chairman of the Minsk Forum and the German-Belarusian Society Rainer Lindner said at an international conference to mark 25 years of restoring diplomatic relations between Belarus and Germany. The event was held at the Minsk International Educational Center named after Johannes Rau, BelTA has learned.

The event was organized by the Foreign Policy and Security Research Center and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Ukraine. Speaking at the conference were Charge d'Affaires of Germany to Belarus Anja Luther, head of the Western Europe Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Aleksei Zhbanov, Director of the Office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Ukraine Matthes Buhbe, and Director of Foreign Policy and Security Research Center Sergei Palagin.

The conference included four sessions: Belarus-Germany political relations: achievements, difficulties, new opportunities, Economic cooperation between the two countries as a factor of assisting the transformation of the Belarusian economy, Belarus-Germany relations and regional cooperation, Civil society, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two states.

As was noted at the conference, Germany has been one of Belarus' most important political and economic partners over the past 25 years. The multi-pronged, partnership-oriented relations between Belarus and Germany are a part of the pan-European cooperation system.

According to Rainer Lindner, Belarus' potential, with its territorial vicinity to Europe and its political and economic participation in the Eurasian Economic Union, makes the country a key state in forming a “bridge” of cooperation between Germany and the Eurasian Economic Union.

Attending the event were representatives of state and public organizations, scientists and researchers of Belarus, Germany, Russia, and Ukraine.
