Plan to develop coordinated information policy in CSTO approved

MOSCOW, 24 May (BelTA) – The committee of secretaries of security councils of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states discussed additional measures to counteract international terrorism and extremism during the session in Astana, Kazakhstan on 24 May, CSTO Press Secretary Vladimir Zainetdinov told BelTA.

The committee discussed a broad range of modern challenges and threats, which have a negative impact on the situation in collective security regions. The CSTO secretary general informed the committee about the additional measures the CSTO Secretariat had suggested with a view to counteracting international terrorism and extremism in the Collective Security Treaty Organization format.

The committee members signed 11 documents as a result of the session. The most important ones include the action plan to develop a coordinated information policy in the interests of the CSTO member states. Some of the other documents are designed to further advance military cooperation between the CSTO member states, prepare CSTO collective forces for carrying out designated tasks, and train military personnel.

Participants of the session mentioned the need to enhance stability and security in the CSTO space, take effective measures to build up the organization's potential for counteracting the entire spectrum of challenges and threats. Measures of mutual support in this sphere were specified, said CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov after the session. In particular, the effectiveness of measures being taken to coordinate efforts of the CSTO member states in counteracting terrorism and extremism was analyzed in detail.
