Permanent Under Secretary at UK Foreign Office visits Minsk

MINSK, 1 October (BelTA) - Simon McDonald, the Permanent Under Secretary and Head of the Diplomatic Service at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, is visiting Minsk on 1 October as part of a regional tour, BelTA learned from the UK Embassy in Belarus.

Simon Macdonald's visit continues a series of bilateral meetings and visits, including visits by Minister of State for Europe and the Americas of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office Alan Duncan to Belarus in September 2017 and Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei to the UK in March 2018.

While in the Belarusian capital Simon McDonald is set to meet with Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko and Finance Minister Maksim Yermolovich. He is also expected to meet with graduates of the UK universities.

The embassy believes that the visit of the permanent under secretary will help strengthen relations between the UK and Belarus and explore ways of bilateral cooperation, including through the development of trade relations.
