Parties to Ukraine conflict reach agreement on Easter ceasefire

MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – An agreement has been reached on a ceasefire in the east of Ukraine for the duration of the Easter holidays starting on 1 April, OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group on resolving the conflict in Ukraine, Martin Sajdik said in Minsk on 29 March, BelTA has learned.

Martin Sajdik informed that “today the parties agreed on a ceasefire and the withdrawal of heavy weapons on 1 April and the disengagement of forces in Stanytsia Luhanska on 6 April”.

In light of this, the trilateral contact group issued a statement that reads that the contact group and representatives of certain districts of Ukraine's Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast welcome the determination of all the participants of the Minsk process to ensure full respect of the ceasefire declared in view of the upcoming Easter holidays. The ceasefire will start at midnight on Saturday, 1 April.

The participants also agreed to make the crossing of the contact line in the entry and exit checkpoints more speedy. This, in particular, will include more staff in place and longer working hours of the abovementioned points starting from 1 April.
