Parliamentary cooperation expected to contribute to Belarus-USA political dialogue

MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) - Parliamentary cooperation should contribute to the development of the political dialogue and comprehensive cooperation between Belarus and the United States, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Rachkov said as he met with representatives of the U.S. Senate, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Rachkov held talks with Staff Director of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee of the United States Congress Christopher Socha and the committee's professional staff member Hannah Thoburn. The meeting was also attended by Oleg Rummo, a member of the standing commission, and Charge d'Affaires of the USA in Belarus Jenifer Moore.

The parties exchanged opinions on regional security and Belarus-USA cooperation, including parliamentary interaction.

“Belarus and the United States have recently made serious steps to improve bilateral contacts. It is important not only to normalize the relations but also make them good. Belarus sees it as its task. Parliamentary cooperation should promote the political dialogue and comprehensive cooperation. The Council of the Republic is ready to directly communicate with the Senate of the U.S. Congress and discuss important issues on the Belarusian-U.S. agenda and regional security,” Sergei Rachkov said.

For his part, Christopher Socha said that all the branches of the U.S. government are interested in developing relations with Belarus. Cooperation with your country is important, and the seriousness of the U.S. intentions has been proven by the recent visits, he noted.
