OSCE PA Special Representative for Eastern Europe to visit Belarus in January

MINSK, 15 January (BelTA) - OSCE PA Special Representative for Eastern Europe, Head of the Swedish delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Kent Harstedt is set to visit Belarus in January, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina told BelTA.

In her words, as the date of the local elections in Belarus is approaching, the European structures get more and more interested in them. “OSCE PA Special Representative for Eastern Europe, Head of the Swedish delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Kent Harstedt is expected to visit Belarus soon. Our meeting with him is scheduled for 22 January,” Lidia Yermoshina said.

She added that in view of the upcoming elections to the local councils the Central Election Commission holds meetings with the diplomats accredited in the country.

The House of Representatives action plan for early 2018 shows that Kent Harstedt's visit will be held on 21-24 January.

The local elections in Belarus are scheduled for 18 February. A total of 22,719 people have been nominated as potential candidates to the local councils of deputies.
