MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – Rasa Ostrauskaite, Co-ordinator of Activities to Address Transnational Threats at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), offered key recommendations for the fight against terrorism in the digital age during the closing ceremony of the international high-level conference “Preventing and Countering Terrorism in the Digital Age" in Minsk on 10 October, BelTA has learned.
“First of all, we need a harmonized international legal framework. Secondly, efforts to restrict access to websites or remove content should go hand in hand with the development of national legislation that respects fundamental human rights and freedoms and criminalizes improper behavior,” Rasa Ostrauskaite noted.
The co-ordinator also urged to make a wider use of public-private partnerships in the fight against terrorism and extremism. She added that the OSCE is ready to continue to support relevant training programs.
Better preparedness of states for cyber-threats or cyber-attacks on critical infrastructures should also be a priority. The OSCE will continue to support countries in this area as well.
