Opinion: Common political principles underlie Belarus-China cooperation

MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – The dynamics of Belarus-China cooperation are based on common principles of internal and foreign policy, Speaker of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich told Chinese journalists on 4 May, BelTA has learned.

“The dynamic development of Belarus-China cooperation is grounded on common principles of internal and foreign policy,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. Being on the same page about the essential issues on the international agenda is very important, he added.

Both countries advocate the formation of a multipolar world, non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries under whatever pretext, and peaceful settlement of international conflicts and disputes. “In the complicated geopolitical situation, Belarus is known and respected as an outpost of peace, tranquility, and stability. The country brings forward initiatives to counter human trafficking, terrorism, and solution of international conflicts by military means,” Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed.

Belarus and China actively interact in international organizations: the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia.

Belarus values open friendly relations with China, the speaker summarized. The expansion of cooperation with China is a key priority of Belarus' foreign policy, he underlined. “Belarus regards China as a reliable friend and strategic partner. Our relations are based on the principles of mutual respect and equality. They include an active political dialogue and the effective development of trade, economic, investment, scientific, and humanitarian ties,” Mikhail Myasnikovich added. The sincere friendship and the highest level of trust between the heads of state Alexander Lukashenko and Xi Jinping underlie Belarus-China partnership.
