Ongoing Tajikistan CIS presidency lauded as successful

MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) - Tajikistan CIS presidency has been successful, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Tajikistan to Belarus Mahmadsharif Haqdod told the media, BelTA has learned.

The concept of Tajikistan's presidency in the Commonwealth of Independent States provides for a number of important organizational and practical measures aimed at further deepening the cooperation in the CIS, the ambassador said. “Judging by the results in the first half of the year we can say that all the planned activities are implemented successfully. These activities apply to cooperation in security, social, economic, cultural and humanitarian affairs.

Tajikistan initiates holding a regular high-level international conference on the implementation of the goals and objectives of Water Action Decade 2018-2028. The second forum will be held in 2020. It will discuss ways to stimulate action on water issues and partnerships at the local, national and global levels.

The international center has been set up in Dushanbe to facilitate the implementation of the Decade's goals and objectives. As an additional site for interaction Tajikistan intends to sponsor a new resolution for the UN General Assembly on the mid-term review of the Water Action Decade and to promote it as part of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.

The first high-level international conference on the international decade for action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018-2028 was held in Dushanbe in June. It was attended by 1,500 representatives from more than 100 countries, international and regional organizations, local authorities, the private sector and academia. Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Pakistan were represented at the level of heads of state and government.

The international forum adopted the final Dushanbe declaration “Promoting Action and Policy Dialogue”.
