Official meeting of working group on Belarus' WTO accession due in autumn

MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) – The 9th official meeting of the working group on Belarus' accession to the World Trade Organization will be held this autumn. The decision was made at a meeting of the WTO General Council in Geneva, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Belarusian delegation headed by Director of the Department for Foreign Economic Activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Roman Sobolev participated in the meeting as an observer. The delegation also included the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission of Belarus to the UN Office in Geneva.

“On the margins of the event the Belarusian delegation met with Officer-in-Charge of the WTO Accessions Division Maika Oshikawa and Chairman of the Working Party on Belarus' accession to the WTO, Permanent Representative of Turkey to the WTO in Geneva Kemal Madenoglu. The WTO representatives welcomed the fact that in July 2017 Belarus disseminated a package of documents among the WTO members, including the draft working party report. This will make it possible to hold the 9th official meeting of the working party on Belarus' accession to the WTO in the autumn 2017.

The bilateral consultations were held with a number of WTO members in order to move forward the multilateral and bilateral negotiations. The delegation met with the representatives of the Argentina government and the WTO Secretariat to discuss the organizational issues related to the participation in the 11th session of the WTO Ministerial Conference (Buenos Aires, 10-13 December 2017).
