Nikolic: Serbia's policy towards Belarus will not change as new president takes office

MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) – Serbia's policy towards Belarus will not change as the new president takes office, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said in an interview with BelTA News Agency and Belteleradiocompany on 21 May.

“There will be no new ideology, " Tomislav Nikolic said. “I have been working together with Aleksandar Vucic for the past 25 years, and our ideas are the same,” he noted. According to the Serbian president, the policy towards Belarus will remain the same.

According to the Serbian leader, the two countries are discussing ways of intensifying bilateral ties, expanding the presence of Belarusian companies on the Serbian market and Serbian companies in Belarus. This pertains to the agricultural and industrial sectors which, according to Serbia, have prospects of getting access to third markets. “We will be bolstering our bilateral economic relations,” said the president of Serbia.

As for the political cooperation, he pointed out the convergence of the two heads of state's views on many issues of the international agenda. “There are no obstacles to the dynamic growth of our cooperation. Serbia views the relations with both the West and the East as equally important. For now, the country finds more understanding and friendship in the East,” Tomislav Nikolic said.
