Negotiations on resolving situation in Ukraine's east in progress in Minsk

MINSK, 21 August (BelTA) – A meeting of the subgroups of the trilateral contact group on resolving the situation in Ukraine's east is in progress in Minsk, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

A session of the trilateral contact group on resolving the situation in Ukraine's east is scheduled for 22 August.

After the previous session of the trilateral contact group in Minsk on 25 July the OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik mentioned positive results of the truce the group had agreed on in view of the start of the harvesting campaign. Back then the subgroup on economic affairs discussed steps on restoring and improving Vodafone Ukraine mobile communication service in certain parts of Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast. The subgroup also discussed topical matters concerning the payment of pensions and water supply.

The subgroup on humanitarian affairs continued discussing the exchange of prisoners of war. Ways to allow civilians to more easily cross the contact line were also mentioned. The subgroup on political affairs continued discussing the implementation of the Steinmeier formula, the amnesty, and the modality of municipal elections in certain parts of Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast.
