MPs suggest developing food security concept of Belarus-Russia Union State

MOSCOW, 23 May (BelTA) – Union State MPs suggested developing the food security concept within the framework of the common agricultural policy of the Belarus-Russia Union State. This initiative was endorsed by the members of the security, defense and anti-crime commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State who had a meeting in Tver, BelTA learned from the press service of the Parliamentary Assembly.

The MPs also suggested drawing up the programs and activities for the development of organic farming, restoration of crop and vegetable seed farming and setting up interregional agricultural production clusters. The MPs noted that the development of such programs and activities will help strengthen the security of the Union State, and agreed to submit these proposals to the agriculture ministries of Russia and Belarus for consideration.

The meeting participants reviewed the status of implementation of a plan of action for 2014-2016 to develop the common migration space in the territories of the States Parties to the Union State Treaty. The MPs noted the consistent and productive nature of interaction between the border and immigration agencies of Belarus and Russia.

The MPs also gave consideration to the Union State event “Military-patriotic session of students of the Suvorov military (Nakhimov naval) and cadet schools of Belarus and Russia” slated to run in 2016. The commission instructed the Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly to ensure the monitoring and provide assistance with the preparation of the event.
