MP: Belarus can play an active role in renewing the East-West dialogue

MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) – Belarus can play an active role in renewing the dialogue between the East and the West. The statement was made by Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk as he met with Bogdan Zdrojewski, chair of the European Parliament's delegation for relations with Belarus, member of the European Parliament on 18 July, BelTA has learned.

Boleslav Pirshtuk remarked that a regular session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly ended in Minsk a short while ago. “On the whole, our guests believe the session was quite successful and once again we could offer a platform to our international partners. As part of the session during the opening ceremony the Belarus president put forward the idea of launching the second Helsinki process. We believe it is now of vital importance to reinforce mutual trust, security, and cooperation and renew the large-scale dialogue between the West and the East,” said the MP. He was convinced that Belarus could play a rather active role in this regard.

According to Boleslav Pirshtuk, Belarus does not hide its interest in advancing relations with the European Union. “Belarus has always been a reliable partner not only from the point of view of supporting the social and economic stability in the region but also with regard to other very important matters of European significance,” noted the deputy head of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament. He said he was primarily referring to military and political stability, energy and environmental stability, interaction in crime control, fight against illegal migration and a number of similar problems.

“I hope we will have an opportunity to discuss matters of varying polarity, an opportunity to bring our views closer to each other, and work productively for the sake of the future,” added the MP.
