Moldova seeks EEU observer status

CHISINAU, 22 March (BelTA) – Moldova has applied for the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) observer status. Moldova President Igor Dodon sent a relevant letter to Chairman of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, Kyrgyzstan President Almazbek Atambayev, BelTA learned from the social network account of Moldova's president.

Igor Dodon stressed that Moldova attaches great importance to establishing mutually beneficial cooperation with international organizations of regional economic integration, in order to provide for more possibilities to develop the national economy.

Igor Dodon noted the growing role of the EEU whose member states strive to ensure the free movement of goods, services, capital, and people; support the sustainable development, and improve national economic competitiveness.

It is expected that the issue of granting the EEU observer status to Moldova will be considered at the meeting of the leaders of the EEU member states in late May. Igor Dodon noted that Chisinau will host an international economic forum on 3 April 2017. Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission Tigran Sarkisyan will attend the forum.
