Minsk may host conference of national coordinators for UN SDGs in 2018

MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) – A regional conference of national coordinators for sustainable development may take place in Minsk in 2018, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said in an interview with the United Nations Radio on 21 September, BelTA has learned.

“We know that many countries have a national mechanism for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. This is why we offered our partners in the UN – and got an initial positive answer – to hold a regional conference of national coordinators for sustainable development in Minsk in 2018 to exchange experience in this field and work out some new approaches because we should by all means implement the decisions taken at the UN summit,” Vladimir Makei remarked.

In his words, it is important to arrange events of this kind at the regional level and found a partnership of national mechanisms for achieving SDGs worldwide. “Belarus is ready to give a hand. We are ready to make a fair contribution and embrace all the new and interesting things that other countries have,” the minister underlined.
