Military cooperation seen as essential component of CSTO

MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) - Military cooperation remains an essential component of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Belarusian Defense Minister Andrei Ravkov told the media following the session of the CSTO Defense Ministers Council, BelTA has learned.

Andrei Ravkov informed that the ministers identified the main areas of activity in the near term, the results of which will be examined in the run-up to the session of the CSTO Collective Security Council in Minsk in the second half of 2017. “Military cooperation of the CSTO member states remains one of the most important components of the CSTO, its further development and strengthening its security,” the minister said.

He expressed the confidence that the decisions adopted at today's session will make the system of collective security and crisis response more efficient. Andrei Ravkov informed that the participants of the session discussed the plan of CSTO consultations on foreign policy, security and defense in the second half of 2017 - first half of 2018, the joint schedule for training command units, forces, and assets of the CSTO's collective security system in 2018.

The council also considered the issues related to the training of military personnel for the CSTO countries.
