MFA: Minsk remains a key negotiating platform for Ukraine settlement

MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – Minsk remains a key platform for talks on the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, reads the review of Belarus' foreign policy and the activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2016, BelTA has learned.

“The Belarusian side made considerable efforts to promote a peaceful settlement of the crisis in Ukraine and provide the necessary conditions for regular meetings of the trilateral contact group on Ukraine and its working groups. The November meeting of the foreign ministers of the Normandy Four hosted by the Belarusian capital demonstrated that Minsk remains a key negotiating platform for Ukraine crisis settlement,” the review reads.

Belarus also made its contribution to countering modern challenges and threats and took an active part in the activities of the United Nations and other international organizations.

The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the timely initiative of the Belarusian head of state to launch a new large-scale negotiations format, similar to the Helsinki Process, to discuss prospects of the relations between the East and the West.

“The comprehensive efforts helped improve the international image of our country and its perception in the international arena. Now Belarus is rightfully appreciated as a ‘point of stability' in the region,” the document reads.
