MFA: Border infrastructure not yet ready for Belarus' small border traffic with Poland, Lithuania

MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – The border infrastructure is not yet ready for the launch of Belarus' small border traffic project with Poland and Lithuania, Anatoly Glaz, the head of the department of information and digital diplomacy (spokesperson) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, told the media on 6 September, BelTA has learned.

Journalists asked when Belarus is going to launch its small border traffic with Lithuania and Poland. Anatoly Glaz noted that one of the key issues that need to be addressed before the agreements on small border traffic come into effect is the readiness of the border infrastructure for a predictably higher number of travelers. “Unfortunately, despite the recently taken efforts, the infrastructure of border checkpoints does not meet the requirements necessary for the launch of the small border traffic project,” he said.

“We also need to take into account the unrhythmic nature of border control at the checkpoints on the part of Poland and Lithuania, which often produces queues. This is the matter that needs to be resolved and the resolution of the issue depends on our partners,” the official representative of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
