Margvelashvili: Belarus-Georgia cooperation improves living standards for regular citizens

TBILISI, 22 March (BelTA) – Belarus-Georgia cooperation is aimed at improving living standards of citizens of both countries. Georgia President Giorgi Margvelashvili made the statement during the reception held in honor of the Belarus president on 22 March, BelTA has learned.

The Georgian head of state said: “By working with Belarusians, we change the life of regular citizens. It is of special importance and is perceived by politicians from a special angle. I think that when they look at our relations, many countries can say that the relations represent a fine example of how countries can cooperate without compromising their interests, but, quite the opposite, enhancing their capabilities and creating opportunities for other brotherly countries and nations. I thank you for the years of friendship and cooperation, which we have spent together and which have resulted in significant agreements and projects.”

Giorgi Margvelashvili underlined the huge role the arrival of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko played in the current Belarusian-Georgian relations. “We have been able to commit to paper our bilateral relations in a number of particularly important documents, which create a solid foundation for cooperation between our nations and countries. It also gives me an opportunity to thank you for the special attitude towards Georgians. You have always been open for help, cooperation, and the advancement of the bilateral relations for the benefit of our states,” said the Georgian president.

Giorgi Margvelashvili also made it clear that cooperation is meant to benefit regular citizens of Georgia and Belarus. “In addition to helping us and advancing the trade and economic relations with us, Belarusians pursue the policy of not only selling products but opening opportunities for setting up research centers and applied science centers for production development here in Georgia. Everything stems from this policy that you pursue with regard to your nation and brotherly nations,” noted the Georgian president.

Giorgi Margvelashvili said: “Today I've said more than once that I envy the rapid development of your production sector starting with agriculture and ending with high technologies. The fact that Belarus has not wasted but has preserved and multiplied the economic power that once existed owes a lot to your leadership and your role.”
