Makei: Minsk ready to host Helsinki 2 process

MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) - Minsk is ready to host the Helsinki-2 process, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at the opening of the 7th Congress of the Belarusians of the World in Minsk on 15 July, BelTA has learned.

Belarus put forward an initiative of launching the new OSCE Helsinki process, a broad dialogue to overcome the existing contradictions in the relations between the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian countries, said the minister. “Minsk is ready to become the venue for such dialogue. The process of resolving the Ukrainian crisis has shown that we are capable of performing such difficult and responsible tasks,” he noted.

Development of confrontation in the world can be avoided only by all people of goodwill, Vladimir Makei is convinced. “Belarus is ready to make its contribution to peace and security,” said the minister.

As it was reported, President Alexander Lukashenko suggested the idea of launching Helsinki-2 at a plenary meeting of the 26th Annual Summer Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Minsk.
