Makei, Lavrov agree to mutually support UN initiatives

MINSK, 16 May (BelTA) – Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei and Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov agreed on the mutual support of initiatives in the United Nations during their meeting in Minsk on 16 May, BelTA has learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to the press service, “the parties shared opinions on the most important issues related to regional and global security and stability, discussed the development of the Eurasian Economic Union and the CIS modernization, agreed on mutual support of initiatives in the UN.”

During the face-to-face and extended talks the parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, joint work in integration associations, and cooperation in international organizations. “The parties also considered the development of the legal framework and cooperation of the ministries of foreign affairs of the two countries. The date for the joint meeting of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia was finalized,” the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs was held during the working visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia to Belarus.
