Makei: Belarus' partners should have an unbiased opinion about the country

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Belarus' partners should have an objective opinion about the situation in the country, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media following the negotiations with Alan Duncan, Minister of State for Europe and the Americas at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, on 26 September, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei remarked that Alan Duncan had met with representatives of various categories of Belarus' civil society, heads and members of governmental and non-governmental organizations during his visit to Belarus.

“The most important thing is that our partners should have an unbiased opinion about the situation in Belarus. Yes, we do have disadvantages and problems. It is crucial, however, not to demonize a country by default if you have not even visited it. It is crucial to have a real and unbiased opinion about the situation. This helps discuss current problems in an open way and try to find a solution, maybe, even reach a compromise. This lays a good groundwork for a positive movement towards the future,” believes Vladimir Makei.

In turn, the UK minister stressed that various matters, even those uncomfortable for Belarus, were brought up during the meetings. “When we were discussed them, I appreciated the frankness of the Belarusian colleagues,” Alan Duncan added.
