Makei: Belarus and the EU have common goals

MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) – Belarus and the EU countries have common goals, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told media on 30 June, BelTA has learned.

“We can see that the relations between Belarus and the European Union have recently improved. Thanks God, all the parties were able to find strength and put aside all the psychological issues related to certain opposition of each other. We have understood that both Belarus and the EU countries, and the European Union as a whole, have been pursuing the same aims: in security, trade and economic cooperation, state and society improvement,” said Vladimir Makei.

However, according to the minister, a thaw in the relations with the EU does not mean that Belarus can now feel complacent. “A lot should still be done, and this requires efforts from all the parties. We are ready for it, as, I will reiterate, we have common goals,” the diplomat said.

Vladimir Makei also noted that Belarus would like to have good relations not only with the West but also with the East, the North and the South.
