MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) – The CIS has certain problems, however, the overall development of the association is progressive and positive, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev told the media, BelTA has learned.
“We have problems in our interaction. Without them, no process happens actually,” said Sergei Lebedev. According to him, more often issues arise with the implementation of some projects and plans, but they are not prevailing. “In general, we see our development as progressive and positive. We tackle all these problems,” the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee said.
Sergei Lebedev expressed the view that the image of any organization, any integration association relies on the results that the participating countries achieve. “Once we have more positive examples of interaction, the image will improve. We are working on this,” Sergei Lebedev said.
As an example, Sergei Lebedev cited the recent CIS economic forum held in Moscow in March. “This forum confirmed that we have work to do. But there are positive results, for example the agreement on free trade zone,” he noted.
“Not everything is smooth. When certain flaws are highlighted, it is natural. But we should focus not only the shortcomings but also the positive developments,” he noted.
On 18 April Minsk hosts a regular meeting of the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council. The CIS plenipotentiaries are set to take stock of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting which was held in Tashkent on 7 April, to also discuss the activity of the CIS Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation and the ways to improve the information support of the CIS activities, which is currently provided at two levels: inside the CIS member state (through the country's information resources) and at the interstate level with the involvement of the CIS agencies and interstate organizations. The CIS plenipotentiaries will decide on steps to popularize the activity of the organization, strengthen its positive image.More about Politics
