Leadership of Angola's National Assembly invited to visit Belarus

MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, invited the leadership of the National Assembly of Angola to visit Belarus as he met with Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti on 26 June, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Andreichenko said that parliaments play an important role in the development of an interstate dialogue. The speaker pointed out that the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus has a working group for cooperation with the Angolan parliament. “I know that Angola will hold elections to the National Assembly in August, and we would be glad if a similar friendship group for cooperation with Belarus were set up in your parliament,” Vladimir Andreichenko noted. He said that the Belarusian side would also be glad if the leadership of the newly elected parliament of Angola paid an official visit to Belarus.

Besides, Vladimir Andreichenko believes that the two countries could make a better use of the cooperation in international organizations, including the Pan-African Parliament. The Belarusian speaker said that with the support from Angolan partners, Belarus could establish ties with this influential international organization.

For his part, Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti pointed out that Belarus and Angola have great cooperation potential. The minister noted that the delegation arrived in Minsk on 25 June, and has already had a number of important meetings, including with the Belarusian head of state.

Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti said that with the aggravation of the economic situation in Angola amid the fall in the oil prices, the country decided to diversify the economy and to develop agriculture. The foreign minister said that Angola and Belarus have good cooperation prospects. For instance, the countries are considering plans to set up a plant to assemble Belarusian vehicles in Angola. First of all, the plans concern tractors. However, it is possible that the countries will start assembling different types of vehicles.
