MOSCOW, 4 February (BelTA – TASS) – Any attempts to stage a "color revolution" in Belarus are doomed to failure, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with Italy's Limes monthly magazine.
"Attempts to rock the political situation in that country have little chance to be supported by the overwhelming majority of the republic's population," he said. "It was convincingly proved by the results of the presidential elections in October when Belarusian citizens voted for political stability, for closer ties with Russia, including within the Union State [of Russia and Belarus - TASS] and the Eurasian Economic Union."
"Any export of revolutions, be it communist, democratic or whatever else, does enormous harm to the peoples of those states that become targets of such experiments," Lavrov stressed. "Such practices, which are a blatant violation of international law, seriously undermine global and regional stability."
He said the Russian side thinks it important to "re-confirm the principle of non-interference into domestic affairs, including the inadmissibility of subversive actions and backing to unconstitutional change of power in other countries, which is fixed in the United Nations Charter and the OSCE Helsinki Final Act."
"We believe that the Helsinki +40 process within the OSCE has paved the way for further serious discussions both on this topic and on the entire range of issues of European security," the Russian minister added.
