Kazakhstan parliament delegation arrives in Belarus

MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – A delegation of the Kazakhstan parliament led by Nurlan Nigmatulin, Chairman of the parliament's lower chamber, has arrived in Belarus, representatives of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus told BelTA.

The next day Nurlan Nigmatulin is expected to meet with Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov and Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko. Nurlan Nigmatulin is also expected to read a lecture in the Belarusian State University.

The press service of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament noted that negotiations between Nurlan Nigmatulin and Vladimir Andreichenko are expected to touch upon a large number of matters, including interparliamentary cooperation, cooperation in trade and economic affairs, the improvement of the legal base, and the operation of Belarusian-Kazakh assembly enterprises in Kazakhstan.

The Kazakh parliament delegation is expected to lay a wreath at the Eternal Flame in Victory Square, Minsk. Members of the delegation will visit the Belarusian State Museum of History of the Great Patriotic War and the Belarusian automobile engineering company MAZ.

Kazakhstan is in Belarus' top ten main trade partners in terms of Belarus' export and is ranked third after Russia and Ukraine in the Commonwealth of Independent States. In 2016 Belarus-Kazakhstan trade totaled $419.1 million, with Belarus securing a trade surplus. Belarus' main exports were tractors and tractor units, milk and dairy products, trucks, furniture, machines and mechanisms for harvesting and threshing agricultural crops.

In Kazakhstan there are eight joint enterprises that assemble Belarusian machines, vehicles, and equipment. Work is in progress to set up another six enterprises in Kazakhstan to assemble products made by the Pinsk-based labor-saving tools manufacturer SMM, OOO Dorelektromash, and other companies.

The practical advancement of Belarus-Kazakhstan bilateral relations is guided by the 2017-2018 intergovernmental action plan. The roadmap spans all the spheres of interaction, including trade, and economic relations, relations in science and technologies, culture, humanitarian affairs, regional affairs, and other matters.
