Karczewski: Interparliamentary cooperation contributes to Belarusian-Polish relations

MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) - Interparliamentary cooperation contributes to the positive atmosphere of the Belarusian-Polish relations, Marshal of the Senate of Poland Stanislaw Karczewski said during the meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.

“Our interparliamentary cooperation is very important because it contributes to the improvement of the atmosphere of the relations between our countries,” Stanislaw Karczewski said.

He noted that prior to the arrival in Belarus he held a meeting with Chairman of the Council of the Republic of Belarus' National Assembly Mikhail Myasnikovich. “Yesterday at the airport, we had a very substantive and productive meeting, which I hope will become a starting point for further talks on the development of cooperation,” Stanislaw Karczewski noted.

According to him, he came to Belarus from the city of Przemysl which hosted the meeting of speakers of parliaments of the Visegrad Group countries. “In order to be on time for today's meeting, I had to leave early. But everybody wished me bon voyage and asked to convey the best wishes to Belarus. I thus wanted to emphasize the importance of our today's meeting. I recently met with Chairman of the Parliament of Sweden who knows Mr. Myasnikovich well. He also asked to convey the best greetings and wishes for Belarus,” Stanislaw Karczewski said.

According to the Marshal of the Senate, almost 25 years have passed since Poland recognized Belarus' independence. Another event on the agenda of his visit to Belarus is the ratification of the bilateral agreement on cooperation in education. “This agreement is important both from the pragmatic and symbolic point of view,” Stanislaw Karczewski said.
