Japan shows interest in Belarus' radiation rehabilitation technologies

MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) – Sergei Rakhmanov, the chairman of the Council of the Republic's permanent commission on international affairs and national security, met with Masako Mori, Deputy Head of the General Public Security Council of the leading Liberal-Democratic Party of Japan, during a visit to Japan in early February. During the meeting the parties considered the possibility of adopting the Belarusian technologies for the rehabilitation of the territories affected by the accident at Fukushima 1, BelTA learned from the press service of the Council of the Republic.

Sergei Rakhmanov also met with President of the Japan Biathlon Federation Hiroaki Ibe to discuss the cooperation in sports, including at the level of the Olympic committees. The Belarusian MP held meetings with representatives of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Asia-Pacific Economic and Environmental Research Society. The parties agreed on a visit of Japanese businessmen to Belarus in May 2018.

Sergei Rakhmanov held talks with the Japanese MPs, including the Head of the Japan-Belarus interparliamentary friendship group, the Chairman of the Special Committee for Regional Revitalization Hiromichi Watanabe. The commission comprises influential Japanese policymakers: Parliamentary Vice Minister of Defense Keitaro Ohno, former State Minister for Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Akihiro Nishimura, and others. The parties discussed the bilateral cooperation and inter-parliamentary ties.
