Ireland mulls over investment projects in Belarus

MINSK, 29 April (BelTA) – Investment projects with the participation of the Irish capital can be implemented in Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Sergei Aleinik, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Ireland, paid a visit to Ireland on 26-27 April. “During the trip Sergei Aleinik held a number of meetings with Irish businessmen to discuss issues related to the supplies of Belarusian tractors and other products to the market of Ireland, participation of the Irish capital in investment projects in Belarus in the areas of renewable energy and agriculture,” the press service said.

The Belarusian Ambassador met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland Charles Flanagan and Director General of the Europe Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland Eoin O'Leary.

The parties considered the state and prospects of bilateral political, trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation, the key issues on the regional and international agenda. The sides shared opinions on the most important aspects of cooperation within international organizations, and the OSCE in the first place.

Sergei Aleinik also met with Speaker of the lower house of Ireland Sean O'Fearghail. The parties discussed a wide range of issues related to the inter-parliamentary cooperation, including the forthcoming participation of the Irish delegation in the OSCE PA annual session in Minsk in July 2017.

Humanitarian cooperation and Ireland's charitable programs for Belarusian children were considered at the meeting of the Belarusian diplomat with Head of Chernobyl Children's Trust Simon Walsh.
