Information on Belarus' 2018 local elections to be available online, in print

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian Central Election Commission will publish the detailed information about the elections to the local councils of deputies of the 28th convocation on the website and in the SB. Belarus Segodnya newspaper, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina told the media following a meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.

“Tomorrow the Central Election Commission will hold a session to adopt the schedule of all the electoral events. It will be released on the website and in the SB. Belarus Segodnya newspaper. We will be provided some space in the 16 November edition to publish a whole collection of articles on the nomination of candidates vying for seats on election commissions and candidates for deputies, and also on the signature collection,” Lidia Yermoshina said.

When asked about the expected voter turnout at the local elections to councils of deputies of the 28th convocation, Lidia Yermoshina noted that it stood at some 78% in 2014. “Everything depends on the candidates for deputies,” she added.

The official also commented on the readiness of political actors for the election campaign. “I noticed that the more money is spent on certain election campaigns, the dirtier they get. I do not think that the candidates for deputies will put much money into the election campaign or receive large funds for it. This is why I believe that the 2018 election campaign will be quite clean in this context,” Lidia Yermoshina pointed out.
