Guminsky: Belarus and Thailand show mutual interest in cooperation

VITEBSK, 27 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Thailand demonstrate a mutual interest in developing cooperation, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Viktor Guminsky told media in Vitebsk after an official meeting of Thailand's parliamentary delegation with the Vitebsk and oblast authorities on 26 June, BelTA has learned.

“At the 5th Belarusian People's Congress export diversification was named as one of the main goals for the ongoing five-year period. The visit of Thailand's parliamentary delegation is part of the plan to secure the implementation of the goal,” Viktor Guminsky noted. He stressed that in the search for new markets and new contacts the Belarusian parliamentary delegation (which also included businessmen and manufacturers) paid a visit to Thailand three months ago. “Such a quick response to our proposal proves Thailand's interest in cooperation with Belarus,” the Vice Speaker stressed speaking about the current return visit.

Viktor Guminsky has said that he is accompanying the delegation and sees the guests' sincere interest in Belarus, its economy and cooperation prospects. “I believe that this visit will help advance our relations in many issues and, first of all, in the trade and economic sector where our main interests lie. More meetings are scheduled for 27 June. I think all the matters of mutual interest as well as proposals will be discussed in detail,” the Vice Speaker said.

On the whole, Southeast Asia is one of the promising regions for Belarus in what concerns new sale markets. In his words, it is always hard to enter new markets. “Such visits provide an opportunity for potential partners to see that Belarus is a country which is open for cooperation,” the Vice Speaker said.

Thailand's parliamentary delegation is in Belarus on a visit on 25-29 June. On 26 June the guests laid flowers to the monument on Victory Square in Vitebsk to mark the anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War. The parliamentary delegation was also taken on a tour around the city and a visit to Vitebsk's distillery Pridvinye, with which there plans to establish cooperation.
