Former Russian Ambassador to Belarus awarded Order of Honor

MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) - The Order of Honor was bestowed upon Alexander Surikov, former Ambassador of Russia to Belarus in an official ceremony at the Business and Cultural Center of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia, BelTA has learned.

According to the Belarusian president's decree, Alexander Surikov was awarded the Order of Honor in recognition of his remarkable personal contribution to the development of Belarusian-Russian integration and bilateral cooperation, friendly relations and strategic partnership between Belarus and Russia.

Presenting the order, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Vladimir Semashko said that Alexander Surikov has been a consistent and active supporter of Belarusian-Russian cooperation across the entire spectrum of relations, the Union State and integration between the two states. “His position has always been principled, sometimes quite tough,” the diplomat noted. He stressed that for 12,5 years of working in Minsk Alexander Surikov worked actively to deepen bilateral partnership, to promote equal rights of Belarusians and Russians, and to strengthen friendship between the two fraternal peoples.

Alexander Surikov expressed gratitude to Belarus and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko for the appreciation of his work. “I have always felt at home in Belarus. I have the warmest impressions of working in Belarus,” Alexander Surikov. He also said he is willing to provide any assistance in the development of Belarusian-Russian relations.
