Final results of Belarus president elections released

MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) – The final results of the Belarus president election indicate that Alexander Lukashenko has been elected to fill the country's top executive post by securing 5,102,478 votes. The figure represents 83.5% of the vote or over half of the Belarus citizens, who cast their ballots, BelTA learned from the website of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus.

According to Belarus' CEC, as many as 201,945 voters (3.3%) cast ballots in favor of Sergei Gaidukevich. Tatiana Korotkevich won 271,426 votes (4.4%), Nikolai Ulakhovich — 102,131 (1.7%). The option None of the Above attracted 386,225 people (6.3%) while 48,808 ballot papers (0.8%) were invalidated.

There were 7,008,682 voters across the Republic of Belarus. As many as 6,115,690 people received ballot papers. In accordance with part 3, article 79 of the Electoral Code of the Republic of Belarus the Central Election Commission recognized the election as valid since 6,113,013 voters or 87.2% of the total number took part in the voting process.
