Elections 2016. PACE delegation informed about Belarusian parliamentary candidates registration progress

MINSK, 10 August (BelTA) – Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina met with head of the PACE pre-electoral mission in Belarus Gisela Wurm and other members of the mission on 10 August, BelTA has learned.

Lidia Yermoshina said: “Since PACE representatives also met with representatives of public organizations in addition to representatives of government agencies they had a number of questions to ask about the organization of the election campaign. They were told how pre-election campaigning will proceed, what opportunities the state has given to candidates for that. They asked about progress of the registration of parliamentary candidates, reasons for refusing registration, and how such refusals are appealed against.”

Apart from that, the PACE representatives were interested in learning how votes will be counted, whether the process will be open to observers, how voters are registered, whether dual registration and dual voting are possible.

According to Lidia Yermoshina, the PACE representatives are thankful for the invitation to visit Belarus and view the invitation as a token of openness of the Belarusian electoral process and the country's desire to be part of the European family.
