Elections 2016. Over 300 candidates open campaign accounts

MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – As of 20 August over 300 candidates opened the bank accounts to finance the election campaigning, reads a post published on the website of the Central Election Commission of Belarus, BelTA learned.

Candidates to parliament need bank accounts to set up personal election funds to finance campaigning. The election campaign fund of a candidate may be financed solely by the candidate himself or through voluntary contributions by individuals (not more than 5 base units) and legal entities (not more than 10 base units).

The spending limit for a candidate is 1,000 base units, which is currently Br21,000 (redenominated).

A special bank account for the establishment of the campaign fund can be opened in Belarusbank.

The elections to the House of Representatives will take place on 11 September. Currently, more than 500 people are standing in the elections. This figure is constantly changing as some voluntarily withdraw from the election race, and some, on the contrary, appeal against the decisions of the district electoral commissions and are seeking registration. A total of 521 candidates were registered originally.
