Ecuador recognizes Belarus' leading role in international fight against human trafficking

MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – Within the United Nations Organization Ecuador recognizes and supports Belarus' leading role in the international fight against trafficking in persons, which since July 2008 has been a cornerstone of its multilateral external policy. Back then the resolution put forward by the Belarusian delegation was approved. The document was developed in cooperation with Ecuador and other friendly nations, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ecuador to Belarus Carlos Larrea Davila told BelTA.

“Belarus' international presence has been especially seen in the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking. The group unites 20 UN member states. The United Nations confirms the importance of an effective fight against this crime and the protection of human rights of victims. Ecuador also took an active part in the international seminars in Minsk in 2013 and 2015,” noted the head of the Ecuadorian diplomatic mission.

This cooperation between the two countries will be developed in another important aspect of Ecuador's foreign policy, Carlos Larrea Davila believes. “At the UN headquarters in Geneva Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility Maria Fernanda Espinosa is leading the third meeting of the working group on developing international legally binding document on transnational corporations in the area of rights. The meeting in considering a document which parts will lay foundation for starting negotiations on the future compulsory document covered by Resolution 26/9 of the United Nations Organization of 26 June 2014,” the ambassador said.
