EBRD may expand operations in Belarus

MINSK, 14 September (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei has held a meeting with the delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) led by President Suma Chakrabarti, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Speaking about the areas of further cooperation, the parties agreed that there are opportunities to expand the operations of the bank in Belarus both through new areas and formats of joint activities and the increased amounts of financing for the existing projects,” the ministry said.

The parties discussed the current state of cooperation between Belarus and the EBRD, the implementation of joint projects in the banking sector, utilities and transport infrastructure, renewable energy, and privatization.

It is the second visit of the EBRD president to Belarus. The first one was held in 2015 and included meetings with the representatives of the government, the National Bank, the Economy Ministry, and the Finance Ministry. The parties signed a number of documents aimed at expanding opportunities for crediting small and medium-sized business in the national currency and attracting strategic investors to the companies of the state sector of economy.
